Al Terry | Founder & CEO
Al Terry built his first deck while a GC of interior renovations in NYC in 1996 and ultimately founded and branded his current company, New York Decks in 2000. His original training in boat building was key to quickly establishing the company in the vanguard of urban deck building, and the complex curves portrayed in his projects testify to that early experience designing and building boats on the south shore of Long Island in the 1970's. Today New York Decks ranks as the premier builder of outdoor spaces in NYC. Mr. Terry has received national acclaim for his iconic work at the Mercedes House Fitness center where he personally engineered the support structure of the elevated circular wading pool deck for his teams to build out in the spring of 2012.
Keith Reilly | Vice President
Keith Reilly also has a background in boating, but he comes to NYC and the Brooklyn Navy Yard facility of New York Decks from Ireland, where he received a formal degree in architectural technology from Waterford Institute of Technology. He joined the company in 2012 and has brought a new level of technical proficiency and mechanical exactitude to the company, expanding its capabilities into more commercial and institutional projects as well as growing the company's capacity to tackle the ever-increasing sophistication of contemporary residential landscape design.
When we find talented employees, we hold on to them. When they find us, the feeling is mutual. More than half of our staff have been with New York Decks for between 15 and 20 years.
Rewarding performance and recognizing talent has built an exceptional team for us at New York Decks. Respect for the experience of our peers pairs well with longevity, earning New York Decks a team that synchronizes ideas, craftsmanship, technology, and creativity to deliver projects that consistently exceed expectation.

Interior Design MagazineInterior Design Magazine, the global, industry-leading design publication, featured a project designed by Graftworks and built by New York Decks in their November 2002 issue. Graftworks designed a beautiful bi-level roof garden while New York Decks provided their skill & expertise in making the design come to life. We have done two very successful projects with Al Terry and his team from New York Decks and without question would use them again and recommend them without hesitation.
For our backyard “transformation” Al brought in Groundworks to design and plant the garden while he and the team worked with us on the design of our multi-level deck and patio that incorporated the architectural elements and historic materials from our brownstone. Al collaborated with us and worked not only with the space but within our budget. Al’s mastery of design and understanding of materials has given us an outdoor living space that we love. We now have one problem — when guests come for dinner, they love the space so much, no one wants to leave!
Our basement was dusty, leaking, dark, and unusable. Al and the team have made it clean, bright, and functional. We use the space now for a home gym, storage, and a workshop. With all the rain we’ve had in the last year, we have had no water in the basement — not even a hint of moisture.
The team is professional, hard working, reliable, and good humored. All of the workmanship has been excellent. It was a pleasure having them around. Also, everything was clean and neat at the end of each day; they took care in covering our floors. There was never any damage.
New York Decks was extremely helpful as we worked together to come up with a final design plan. With over 600 sf of outdoor space to work with we iterated among multiple options for the layout and materials, eventually settling on porcelain and a perfectly placed step. They were very prompt coming up with a design layout and was clear and timely in relaying the budget information for the project.
Al Terry and his team are a pleasure to work with. Every member of the team takes great pride in their work. I would absolutely recommend Al Terry and New York decks to any homeowner contemplating a roof terrace or redoing any outdoor space.
New York Decks clearly takes great pride in their craftsmanship. I rate it an A+.
Al listened to our ideas and helped us all along the way with great suggestions as to how to achieve the look we were going for. The team at New York Decks are professionals. We’re very happy with the quality of their work, not only did they work through some innovative design ideas, but he helped keep the project close to within our budget. We really appreciated the smoothness with which the team worked through the process, making it a very unobtrusive project.
We would definitely recommend New York Decks for all projects large and small.
New York Decks was very professional throughout the entire process – from initial contact through final sign-off. They remained in close communication on every aspect of the job and sent a crew that was respectful and vigilant about maintaining clean and safe working conditions. The finished work was excellent. I was especially impressed with NYD’s finesse in resolving the difficult details that require extra attention and care.
The best part about working with New York Decks was the comfort I had knowing that they were highly skilled and knowledgeable craftsman who could produce outstanding results with very little direction from me.
I have already recommended New York Decks to other professionals and would also recommend them to homeowners without hesitation.
